Get Healthy at the Backrow Recreation Centre
December 18, 2012
Draperstown people with mild medical conditions, whose health would benefit from leading a more active lifestyle, are being offered free exercise classes at the Backrow Recreation Centre. ‘Get Healthy at the Backrow’ is a new initiative launched by the Workspace Group in partnership with the GP’s from Draperstown Surgery. Eligible patients are offered a ‘Get Healthy at the Backrow’ voucher from their GP which entitles them to six free exercise classes at the Backrow Recreation Centre. Patients can choose from a wide variety of classes suitable for all abilities including spinning, Zumba and aerobics/boxercise.
Adele McIvor, Centre Manager, explains “At Workspace we have a commitment to making a difference in our local community and want to play an active role in improving the health and wellbeing of people in our area. This scheme gives doctors the perfect way to encourage people in Draperstown to make use of the excellent sports facilities which are already available on their doorstep.”
Dr. Logan from Draperstown Surgery adds “Regular physical activity contributes to the prevention and management of many medical conditions and diseases. Despite recommendations that adults should undertake at least 30 minutes of exercise of moderate intensity at least five times a week, only about a third are active to this level.
We are fortunate to have the facilities here in Draperstown to offer this service to our patients and would encourage those who are eligible to avail of the free exercise classes that are on offer”.
