Draperstown to Benefit from Wind Farm Investment
March 16, 2018
Brookfield Renewable, who have developed the six turbine Crockandun Wind Farm in the Sperrin Mountains which is in close proximity to Draperstown, have contributed £190,000 to us as part of their community benefit programme which offers financial support to the communities in which they develop and operate their wind farms. The funding will assist to bring the former Rural College/Derrynoid Centre site back into use for the benefit of the local Draperstown community
Over the last 12 months we have been working with the Draperstown community to identify ways to bring the vacant property back to life including the potential relocation of local community groups to the centre. The project is expected to cost c£1M and the support offered by Brookfield will take us a step closer to making the project a reality.
As a long-term owner and operator of wind farms, Brookfield Renewable believe it is important to be an active partner in the communities and offer a community benefit programme around their development and operational sites to support community development.
Laurence O’Kane, The Workspace Group, advised “We are delighted Brookfield Renewable have chosen to support our Rural College/Derrynoid Centre project and believe their help will be integral in bringing centre back into use for the benefit of the wider Draperstown community.”
